ugo zagato began his coachbuilding career in 1919 in the busy italian city of milan. the company was; – the construction and repair of bodies for automobiles and airplanes. he did so with the intent of transferring sophisticated constructional techniques that combined lightness with strength from the aeronautics to the automotive sector. cars of the time were still bulky and heavy and zagato conceived them as lightweight structures, with a frame in sheet aluminium similar to an aircraft fuselage. since then they have done a number of collaborative works with some of the finest auto manufactures in all europe. this year at 2015 concorso d’eleganza in villa d’este, the custom coachbuilder revealed the ‘mostro’, a calling-card to accent its long history with maserati. the zagato ‘mostro’ pays salutes to the 1957 maserati ‘450 S’ – which was commissioned and raced by stirling moss at 24 hour le mans, the zagato designed coupe remained the most powerful front engine racecar in the world in the 1990s.

the modern version is built with a carbon monocoque, and a maserati V8 engine with a six speed semi automatic transmission which is mounted between the axles for favorable weight distribution. the doors open with a high forward movement, that extends to the wide windshield.  its not worth mentioning the price because each manufactured ‘mostro’ has been pre-bought by car collectors across the globe and not available for purchase.
