yamaha motor taiwan co., ltd. will launch the ec-05 electric scooter on august 1, 2019. the much anticipated scooter is the result of a collaboration between yamaha japan and gogoro taiwan, which began in september 2018.

yamaha’s long-term goal is to build ‘electric moving tools’ that cater to the ongoing evolutions and transformations in mobility. by collaborating with gogoro, yamaha was able to accelerate its innovation process for the scooter’s joint development. the ec-05 is a vanguard in a new line of yamaha’s electric vehicles coming to market in the near future.
the ec-05 is sold under the yamaha brand and uses the existing gogoro model as a platform for yamaha’s original design. the battery service for the ec-05 is gogoro’s ‘go station’ smart energy system, which covers the whole country of taiwan. the ec-05 scooter can also be connected to the user’s cellphone via the app.
the design of the scooter begins from the rear wheel, focusing on the power source and the supporting strength of the rider. its slim aesthetic matches the powerful force into a feeling of continuous forward momentum. the design of the display screen and the seat brings out the strong, dynamic flow of the body.
its centralized and elevated center of gravity is designed to enhance the user experience and build a sense of acceleration. yamaha’s development is guided by the concept of ‘jin-ki kannon’ meaning to inter-relate the human being and machine at a higher level, using technology to create the excitement and emotion that people crave for. the concept of ‘jin-ki kannon’ is manifested in the design of the ec-05, all the way from the touch and feel to the experience of riding, designed to interact with all the senses.
