NEWS: lockheed martin has teamed up with hong kong-based reignwood group to co-develop a ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) system pilot plant. claimed to be the largest in the world of its kind, the energy generation is projected to be built off the coast of southern china. each 100 megawatt OTEC facility is capable of producing the same amount of energy in a year as 1.3 million barrels of oil, decreasing carbon emissions by 500,000 tons. the companies estimate that fuel savings from one plant can be up-to $130 million a year.
