Capsule Space Spa inside spaceship neptune
Space Perspective’s carbon-neutral spaceflight attempt will bring tourists on Earth to the edge of outer space using Spaceship Neptune or a pressurized capsule in the shape of a hot air balloon. It might take a while before they can reach the edge and might need to relieve themselves on the way up. Some tourists might also scramble for a window seat to have an immersive in-flight experience, while others just want to take a break from the noise and relax while they can. In the new custom-designed restroom that Space Perspective unveiled, all of these are packed in one well-lit capsule toilet with a scenic view of the Earth.
Named Space Spa, the three-in-one toilet spa in outer space is tucked into one side of Spaceship Neptune’s capsule interior, just by the lounge area. Eight passengers and a captain can enjoy the luxury of respite while up in outer space. Lead designers Dan Window and Isabella Trani of Space Perspective say that they aimed to create a spa-like environment as opposed to capsule toilets usually found in airplanes. To do this, they began with the color tones of space and applied soft shades such as light yellow so that once the light illuminates the space, the palette further brightens the restroom up.

Dan Window adds that he and Isabella Trani employ light washes throughout the capsule spa-toilet restroom inside Space Perspective’s Spaceship Neptune. The illumination forges a convivial atmosphere, allows for customization of the environment, and prevents any reflection from bouncing onto the windows. There will also be soundscapes playing inside the capsule spa toilet, and plants are thought of to be placed as a direct recollection of the experience that Space Perspective’s founders had in Biosphere 2, a science research facility in Arizona.
A shelter of solitude and a place to take a moment of respite is how Isabella Trani describes Space Spa. ‘It was imperative that it felt like a retreat. Explorers will find this environment cocooning and comforting, with no sharp edges, which adds to the ambiance and creates a very welcoming place. On a practical level, the design benefits cleanliness, allowing for things such as surfaces that are easy to wipe down, and its soft surfaces and greenery promote sound and odor control,’ she says.
Space Spa is not the only onboard experience waiting for Spaceship Neptune’s passengers as amenities also include a world-class food and beverage program, comfortable seating, custom headphones, amenity kits, and Wi-Fi. In July 2023, Space Perspective announced that the company had sold more than 1,600 tickets, each priced at 125,000 USD. These explorers will get to experience the window seat inside a toilet with a spa at the end of 2024.
