NUEN MOTO introduces its pilot urban electric motorcycle, N1-S

NUEN MOTO adds a waterproof battery and engine for its first urban electric motorcycle, N1-S. The pilot vehicle from the Vietnamese tech startup is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024. Design-wise, the electric motorcycle meets the IP67 waterproof standard. This means that its battery, engine, and all of its electrical components and systems, can still operate even in water up to 0.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes. The technology team adds that the N1-S battery system is one of the safest in the segment at the moment, with its five standard safety layers.

Regenerative brake to store energy and save more power

NUEN MOTO draws its design influence from Dieter Rams. It may be known that the German industrial designer lives by the ethos ‘less is more,’ which has already been published as a book titled Less and More. The design of the urban electric motorcycle then centers on stripping all unnecessary details. It begins with going for a full-black outfit, except for the silver detailing of the components and the orange-like headlights.

A dirt bike look accentuates the body, and the tilted battery and engine add an angular and aggressive style to the frame. The N1-S uses regenerative brake technology with an electrical system and motor. When the riders brake, it goes from kinetic to stored energy, helping to save more power as well as reducing the load on mechanical parts of the brake due to friction. Running over bumps and uneven roads is easier thanks to the shock absorption system of the urban electric motorcycle, which includes an upside-down front shock absorber and a single rear shock absorber.

Five protection layers for the waterproof battery

For the pilot edition, NUEN MOTO adds an additional Ohlins front fork kit, an Ohlins single shock absorber at the rear, and Brembo front and rear brakes. This setup helps improve the vehicle’s safety features, especially when the rider has to navigate uneven paths. There’s also a two-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) as well as integrated cruise control and reverse functions. The latter reduces fatigue and increases comfort when riders travel in urban areas or over long distances. The battery has five protection layers, optimized for air cooling.

The thermal protector makes it heat-resistant and quickly dissipates warmth through the aluminum shell. The technology team places the battery cells in a steel shell. Other than these, the sensors and protection circuits sit outside, covered in a high-grade aluminum shell. The N1-S battery pack comes with a pressure relief valve to ensure that the pressure inside the battery case remains stable, even under harsh operating and riding conditions. NUEN MOTO installs automatic shutdown technology in the battery. In this case, the system automatically reduces the current that flows into the battery when it’s fully charged and while it’s still plugged in to protect its lifespan.

For specs buffs, the maximum speed of the urban electric motorcycle is 130 km/h. Its ECO mode has an average speed of 40 to 50 km/h. It can also travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge. The N1-S’ maximum power is 32 horsepower, and its maximum torque is 190 Nm. In terms of charging, the N1-S integrates two types. The first is AC charging with 220V electricity found in households. The urban electric motorcycle can achieve 80 percent battery charge in three hours and a full charge in around four and a half hours.

With fast charging, it takes around 40 minutes for an 80 percent battery level and an hour for a full charge. The battery cell used in the N1-S has a standard life of 1,000 cycles. Once launched, N1-S owners can swing by NUEN MOTO’s showroom for dedicated fast charging at the DC station. It is located in An Loi Dong Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The technology team is set to release their first urban electric motorcycle, the N1-S, in the fourth quarter of 2024.
