mark one co-founders justin lee and yves behar, along with the fuseproject, team have announced ‘vessyl,’ a smart cup that automatically knows what’s inside, and intelligently tracks drinking in real-time. the product of seven years in the making provides users with personalized insights on what they’re consuming, with responsive feedback on how to meet health goals via a nutritional tracking system.

‘integrating breakthrough technology into everyday products is always a challenge, at the same time, this is exactly how design makes tech products easily adoptable in life,’ said yves behar. ‘for vessyl, we made the cup comfortable and familiar, and made the display of the information discreet and only visible when needed. the faceted exterior surface is just enough of an indicator that something might be different about the cup, and provides it with a porcelain-like surface reflectivity.’

pour any liquid into your vessyl, and within seconds, its sensing technology analyzes the fluid at a molecular level, and instantly recognizes key pieces of information such as beverage type, calorie make up, quantity and hydration needs. for example, the device can tell the difference between brands such as pepsi and coke, or distinguish if the beverage is milk or juice.
