‘Super sub’ submersible at monaco yacht show 2023

At the Monaco Yacht Show 2023, U-Boat Worx finally unveiled its three-seater Super Sub, a submersible that can match and keep up with the speed of larger marine creatures. First introduced in 2021, its real-life model was displayed at the yacht event where attendees could learn about its 100 kW thrust, enabling it to reach speeds of up to 10 knots, and its ability to ascend and descend at inclines of up to 45 degrees. The Super Sub submersible can also execute rapid banking turns, lending the watercraft swift maneuverability as it glides underwater.

One of the hallmarks of U-Boat Worx for its submersibles is the unobstructed views for the passengers. As they can see with Super Sub, passengers can soak in the underwater views through the clear and fully acrylic pressure hull positioned at the front of the submersible. Super Sub’s ballast tanks, batteries, and other components are hidden from the passengers’ sight so that their focus is set on the underwater landscape. With the clear hull, they can see how the submersible matches the speed of marine species.

U-boat worxs uses maximum depth protection

U-Boat Worx’s Super Sub submersible comes with a controller that operates the hydrofoils at the back of the submarine in unison. It allows the thrust flow to be more efficient and execute sharp turns and banking maneuvers effectively. The submersible also features an auto-heading system under its intelligent assistance setting, which means Super Sub can maintain its current direction, whether following a course or approaching marine species.

At the Monaco Yacht Show 2023, viewers can also step inside the submersible and see that the pilot has direct access to gliding information using a touchscreen display in the cockpit. The sensor screen receives updates from land to ensure the pilot has the right information they need during diving.

Super Sub even comes with a feature called ‘maximum depth protection’ which prevents the pilot from going too deep into the sea beyond the submersible’s maximum operating depth. In case this happens, the watercraft will automatically raise itself until it is back within the required depth limits.

Safety buoy for u-boat worx’s super sub

There is a Safety Buoy setup on U-Boat Worx submersibles, including the Super Sub. It is used to show where the watercraft is when it comes up to the water’s surface. This weight helps it float back up to the surface quickly if something goes wrong, like an emergency. The U-Boat Worx submersibles, including the Super Sub, also have enough supplies to keep the people inside alive for at least 96 hours. So, if they are deep underwater, they have enough air, food, and other necessities to stay safe for a few days in case they cannot come back up right away.

The Super Sub displayed at the Monaco Yacht Show will be delivered at the end of 2023, while the next unit is scheduled for delivery in October 2024, with a starting price of 5.2 million euros for this model. ‘The Super Sub’s speed of 10 knots is 3-4 knots faster than the top cruising speed of a bottlenose dolphin and 7 knots faster than the average submersible,’ explains Roy Heijdra, Marketing Manager at U-Boat Worx. ‘Owners can glide behind a group of sea turtles, cruise alongside a school of sharks, dive and turn with a pod of dolphins, or swiftly navigate through the undercurrents with a powerful barracuda.’
