swind electrifies 100 production replicas of the classic MINI car

2019 marks 60 years since the original, iconic MINI first hit the streets, and the little car is still as much loved as ever. not to be mistaken for the still conceptual ‘classic MINI electric‘ that debuted at the 2018 new york auto show, the swind ‘E classic MINI’ has been revealed and is expected to go into production soon. it unites the affection of the original with advanced electric vehicle technology, creating an individual, nippy, zero-emissions city car.

beneath the historic exterior, the swind ‘E classic MINI’ features a bespoke powertrain developed by swindon powertrain. together with a single transmissions, the 80kw motor – equivalent to 110bhp – delivers a top speed of 80mph and races from 0 to 60mph in 9.2s. its battery, which can fully charge in four hours, offers a range of 125 miles. to top it off, the EV is available in either left- or right-hand-drive.

for the exterior, the car’s body has been fully-restored. it retains the same aesthetic, small yet plentiful proportions, and most importantly, the same character as the iconic model. however, now without the need for a petrol tank, its boot space has been increased to 200 liters. black leather adorns the interior, where gauges, buttons and controls have also all been reduced to provide a clean, minimal cockpit.

fittingly, the vehicle was on show at the 2019 london classic car show, which runs from february 14-17. it was also announced that there will only be a production run of 100 models with pricing starting at 79,000 GBP.
