Like many countries around the globe, Spain has also ventured into the search for new, greener, and more sustainable energy resources. More specifically, the country will welcome its first wave power station in the Port of Adriano, Mallorca, in order to meet its electricity needs. The power plant is developed by Swedish company Eco Wave Power which specializes in the production of clean electricity from sea waves.

patented sustainable technology 

After installing similar projects in Israel and Gibraltar, Eco Wave Power decided to expand its activities in Europe, choosing the Spanish Port of Adriano to allocate its new power plant. The idea is to use wave energy in order to give people access to electricity without creating air pollution. The site offers the right conditions to create such a development, and according to forecasts, the plant should be able to generate 2 MW and supply around 400 households in the area.

The plant showcases a patented technology created by the Swedish company, incorporating a set of systems based on floats, pistons, hydraulic motors, generators, and inverters. The facilities are specifically designed to convert wave energy into clean energy — all it takes is a 0.5-meter-tall wave for the plant to produce electricity. In the event of a storm, when the waves may be too high, the floats will automatically rise above the surface of the water and keep their position until the bad weather passes. After Spain, Israel, and Gibraltar, the Eco Wave Power is also undertaking the construction of wave power plants in Portugal and California.
