porsche unveils the taycan, its first fully-electric sports car

porsche presents its first fully-electric sports card dubbed taycan, linking the car manufacturer’s heritage to the future and marking the start of a new era. the four-door sports sedan offers the characteristic porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability. simultaneously, the highly advanced production methods and the features of the taycan are creating new standards in the sustainability and digitalisation fields.

‘we promised a true porsche for the age of electric mobility – a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people all over the world, just like its legendary predecessors have done. now we are delivering on this promise,’ comments , michael steiner, member of the executive board of porsche AG – research and development.

to begin with their all-electric series, porsche is releasing two models — the taycan turbo s and taycan turbo. less powerful production models of these all-wheel drive vehicles will follow this year, and the first derivate to be added will be the taycan cross truism at the end of next year. by 2020, porsche will have invested more than 6.6 billion dollars in electric mobility.

the taycan turbo s version can generate up to 750 horsepower (560 kW) of power combined with launch control and overboost, and it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. as for the taycan turbo, it can produce up to 670 horsepower (500 kW) and complete the same sprint in 3.0 seconds. Both cars feature a top track speed of 161 mph.

the design of the porsche taycan retains the brand’s unmistakable DNA. from the front it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings, while the silhouette is shaped by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear. inside, the sleek cabin features cockpit signals showcase a new era for the car manufacturer with its clear structure and a completely new architecture, where all user interfaces have been designed from scratch. control is now intelligent and intuitive, with touch operations and voice control functions that respond to the ‘hey porsche’ command.
