Transcribing talks and calls using PLAUD’s Notepin

PLAUD wants to help people transcribe, summarize, and recall conversations in real-time with its AI notetaker pin, NotePin. Professionals in several fields—including the medical, business, and legal industries—may appreciate the wearable technology since it can assist them in remembering everything that’s said in meetings, conferences, interviews, and conversations. It can automatically label the speakers and rephrase paragraphs so that they make sense when users need to read through them. So far, it can transcribe up to 59 languages.

It’s nice that PLAUD considers how users can wear the AI notetaker pin. They can add a string and hook it around the neck, place it around their wrist as a bracelet, clip it onto their clothes, or, of course, wear it as a pin. All of these accessories are included in the box, so users can choose what suits their needs depending on the occasion. Because conversations—and even ideas that need to be spoken out loud—can come fast, PLAUD says users only need to press the NotePin, and recording and transcribing immediately begins.

AI notetaker pin uses OpenAI’s GPT-4o

So far, there are two large language models that PLAUD uses for its AI notetaker pin: ChatGPT’s GPT-4 and Claude 3.5 Sonnet. The technology team has plans to incorporate more in the future, should others come up along the way. In the meantime, they rely on these two to run an AI analysis on the words recorded and transcribed. This feature lets the pin create bullet points of the conversations on its own, so users who don’t have time to go through the entire recording can just look for the information they need.

This approach can also help with brainstorming, especially if professionals or students need ‘headers’ for these conversations and even class discussions. Users may need to download the dedicated PLAUD app to access, connect, and make the recordings and transcriptions work. With this, they can also search and retrieve the information they want from their recordings with a touch. At the moment, PLAUD offers unlimited storage on its cloud service in case the AI notetaker pin’s users want to upload the recordings through them.

Users have complete control over their data

Other features of the NotePin include high-definition sound and a microphone, as well as AI speech enhancement. The two high-fidelity mics can help clearly capture the audio recordings, and the AI notetaker pin also uses beamforming algorithms and speech technology to identify muffled and unclear words. In terms of battery, NotePin can last for up to 40 days on standby and 20 hours of continuous recording. So far, the technology company plans to integrate a ‘sharing’ feature, which can allow users to share, export, and share transcript and recording files on different clouds and platforms.

As for the storage capability of the device, it can hold up to 64GB of files and recordings. Talks about privacy may come through, and PLAUD assures users that they have complete control over their data. They add that there’s end-to-end encryption throughout the entire process of using the NotePin. To safeguard the data, the technology company works with cloud service providers, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. As of publishing the story, PLAUD has opened its pool of reservations, with each unit priced at 169 USD as part of its early-bird offer. The first batch of preorders starts shipping in late September 2024.
