danish icelandic artist olafur eliasson, along with his solar energy business ‘little sun’, is launching a crowdfunding initiative on kickstarter. the purpose of the campaign is to fund the second edition in little sun’s line of solar energy products – a mobile charger called the little sun ‘charge’. a collaboration between artist olarfur and engineer frederik ottesen, the ‘charge’ combines a unique form with the latest solar technology. the components of it are calibrated using high efficiency solar cells, which features a LED light, and the capabilities of powering a smartphone after only five hours in the sun.

proceeds also support solar entrepreneurship in africa, and will tangibly change the lives of those living off grid, who rely on their phones and as their only means for staying connected with the wider world. ‘it charges your phone with solar power – it makes you powerful, and it connects you to others,’ explains olafur eliasson. ‘once connected, we can create a movement.’
