Nissan celebrates milestone with concept 20-23

Nissan conceives a modern and electrified hatchback in the form of Concept 20-23 show car to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nissan Design Europe (NDE) being located in London. The reveal took place on a floating barge moored directly outside NDE on the Paddington Basin stretch of the Grand Union canal, showcasing the electric hatchback that came to life from the concept of commuting.

The Nissan Concept 20-23 was designed by a team including some of the younger members of NDE, with the simple brief: design a fun electric city car that they would like to drive every day in London. The result comes out as a small car inspired by the world of online racing and Nissan’s participation in Formula with its basic 3-door hatchback body style that features deep skirts to direct the airflow away from the front of the car and apertures to cool the brakes and out through vents just behind the front wheels.

Electric hatchback with continuous LED lighting

The nose of the Nissan Concept 20-23 electric hatchback has a flat plane to allow the front semi-ring headlights to be positioned well. Under them, a thin continuous stream of LED light comes through, making the car appear as if it were smiling. The side of the electric hatchback appears muscular too with its extended wheel arches and low-profile tires. The top side of these wheel arches in the front and rear come with vented louvers to reduce the pressure that can create air resistance in the wheel bay.

There is a spoiler at the back of the car which is a single piece that comes up from the roof. Its ends can help the car stay stable at the same time not blocking the driver’s view out the back, unlike some sports cars with spoilers. The rear lights of the electric hatchback are made up of two curved LED strips that contrast the straight lines below them. These lines help control the air around the car to stabilize it on the road. On the roof, there is a small opening to let in fresh air for the people inside.

The car’s grey paint on the outside resembles metal carving drawn from its shade, an intentional pick to make it fit tough environments. Stepping inside Nissan Concept 20-23, the sporty look prevails. First, the driver is welcomed in through the scissor doors that fling upwards. Then, the bucket seats snug them comfortably like those found in racing cars. White hues sprawl across the color scheme and wide headrests can enable the driver and passenger a comfy and speedy nap.

The steering wheel mimics the ones found in sports cars or arcade games. It comes with lots of functional buttons for driving, even an option to change how the electric power works with paddles behind the wheel. Between the two seats, metal beams hold everything together, and there is even a fire extinguisher sitting there in case of emergencies. The interior of the electric hatchback mashes up the setups used for online racing games, and the entirety of the Nissan Concept 20-23 electric hatchback can really bring fun to daily city commute.
