in late 2014 a prospective client approached nick mezas yacht design and van oossanen naval architects to develop a concept for a fast 70 meter, blending commercial support vessel capabilities with a flexible and luxurious yacht layout for guests. the team delivered ‘focus’, a radical exterior design both capable of facilitating the contradicting requirements. the concept offers a layout and capacity for one large event spread over three different locations, or it can facilitate a number of separate events at the same time. the trapezoidal space holds the terraces, where they give direct access to the sea by means of a fold out platform and side stairs.

the central salon on the main deck level can be used as a cinema, theatre or concert room while the salon above offers a lounge bar where guests can enjoy the views. the top deck of the vessel is a private owner’s level where four guest cabins make the most of the beam on the main deck. looking into the future, nick mezas is very interested in finding out about new ways of implementing materials to hull innovations. he hopes to bring the ‘focus’ to reality, from paper to the water, raising yacht design to a much higher level.
