newron has opened pre-orders for its unique, wooden electric motorcycle, the EV-1. the french manufacturer newron unveiled the design, which featured organically-curved wooden bodywork, last year.

beneath the soft curves of the bike’s body, is a large, cylindrical battery pack that steeps towards the handlebars of the bike. LED lights are mounted around the battery and appear to be color-changing based on different images supplied by the company.

the newron EV-1 electric motorcycle will have a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph) and a range of ‘up to 300 km’ (186 miles). it supports level 3 dc fast charging which takes approximately 40 minutes. the bike is powered by a 75 kw motor and boasts a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 3 seconds.

‘as the world evolves, so do we. we are constantly seeking new ways to enhance our technical and design offering to bring magic to the road and to the people. our team has successfully built our second prototype and is en route to creating a customizable, exclusive, high-end motorcycle for the true connoisseurs who are seeking for a new experience and assets.’

newron is partnering with dassault systems and advans in france and plans to build 12 of these motorcycles in 2020. they have already worked through accelerator programs and newron is currently designing some ride-mode intelligence into the bike. it hopes this will allow riders to input their destination so that the bike can use power in the most efficient way.
