in 2014, nest bought dropcam, a company that specialized in very popular web based security cameras. now with the technology behind the purchase, nest released its own next generation model simply named ‘cam’, which is a very similar straightforward plug-and-play wifi camera. great for busy households, it streams secure 1080p high definition video at 30 frames per second. this allows for crisp viewing from their app designed for smartphones and tablets or the web browser supported application for laptops and personal computers.

the nest ‘cam’ takes minutes to install with four different types of stand options: – flat, magnetic, wall and tripod bases. the fundamental lens has 130° wide angle perspective with effective video magnify capabilities. the built in speaker lets users talk remotely through the camera. equally important are the eight high powered infrared LEDs that supply the advanced night vision feature. the nest ‘cam’ looks for motions and listens to noises, and alerts the user if something stands out, like a boom, crash or voice of an intruder. to go along with the camera, nest created ‘aware’, a video history subscription service to store footage for users. it generates summaries, time-lapses, and advanced motion sensing using internet algorithms for more accurate detections. the nest ‘cam’ will be available later in june 2015.
