MINI designs and gifts one-off car to celebrate the royal wedding 2018

love is truly in the air, and if you are the designers at MINI, then love is now driving on the streets of london as well. to celebrate the wedding of prince harry and meghan markle, the british marque has designed a one-off hatch to commemorate the special occasion. after the wedding day on may 19, the car will be donated to to one of the couple’s chosen charities, the children’s HIV association, for public auction.

‘as an iconic british brand with almost 60 years of history in the UK, we are pleased to mark the royal wedding with this special charitable gift,‘ explains oliver heilmer, head of MINI design. ‘the MINI design team has created a one-off MINI hatch for the occasion. its specially designed roof graphic combines with 3D-printed personalised interior and exterior details as well as special embroidery to make this a MINI like no other.‘

dressed in a crystal white finish, the MINI hatch’s distinctive look is accentuated by silver-blue strips and a wraparound band in blue-tinted matt silver. whilst features such as the frame of the hexagonal grille and door handles are still made in chrome, the rest of the exterior details extremely exclusive marks. the special side scuttles are 3D-printed with a heart, ring and the initials M and H, while the rear lights display a union jack design. prince harry’s flag and the stars & stripes of meghan markle’s nation is united in a one-off roof graphic, which was applied meticulously by hand in several layers.

as the driver and passenger’s doors are opened, the MINI hatch projects a welcome of ‘just married’ on the ground. the interior itself is bathed in a satellite grey leather that acts as a backdrop for more bespoke elements. as well as the blue-black tinted chrome features, this includes the roof graphic continuing inside by being integrated into the trim strips in the doors, behind the steering wheel and into the head restraints. finally and most celebratory, the first names of the bride and groom, plus the wedding date and good wishes, have been illustrated on to the large trim strip ahead of the passenger seat.
