mercedes-benz EQ silver arrow unveiled at concours d’elegance at pebble beach

in recent years, the concours d’elegance at pebble beach, california has witnessed many concept cars’ world debuts alongside the event’s traditional vintage show. 2018 follows the same trend with mercedes-benz unveiling an electric vision inspired by their W 125 car from 1937, which, with a speed of 432.7 km/h, held the fastest record on public roads until 2017. this is the mercedes-benz ‘EQ silver arrow’, which, with an avant-garde aesthetic, showcases the EQ brand’s progressive luxury take on the design philosophy of sensual purity.

‘over 80 years ago, the historic silver arrows demonstrated that mercedes-benz was a pioneer when it came to speed thanks, among other things, to their streamlined shape,‘ says gorden wagener, chief design officer at daimler AG. ‘the EQ silver arrow show car draws on that legacy. intended for acceleration and driving pleasure, it embodies progressive luxury and provides an insight into the future of our design. as a result, the show car drives the design idiom of our new EQ product and technology brand to the top.‘

structurally made from carbon fiber and coated in alubeam silver, the mercedes-benz ‘EQ silver arrow’ features a clear, seamless design, measuring approximately 5.3 meters long. its slender yet sensuous aesthetic brightly starts at the front with a continuous lighting strip that flows to the side skirts. at the rear, the diffuser is reminiscent of motorsport, detailing two extendible spoilers that act as an air brake. complementing the colorway, the lightweight aluminum wheels comprise of 168 spokes per wheel that are painted in a rose gold color.

the interior blends timeless aesthetic appeal with futuristic visions. for a start, the driver’s cockpit adorns traditional, high quality materials, such as brushed aluminum and walnut details, and saddle brown leather on the seat and steering wheel. on the high-tech spectrum, its features include a large projection surface for the panoramic screen, which superimposes inductive charging spots on to it. furthermore, its artificial intelligence allows users to enter into a virtual race against either historic or present ‘silver arrow’ racing cars.
