it’s only been four years since master & dynamic launched, but the new york city-based audio brand has already made significant waves across the industry. utilizing the highest-quality materials, from heavy grain leathers to durable metals, and even concrete composites, the company has quickly built a reputation for beautiful, functional, and durable hardware. hot on the heels of collaborations with acclaimed architect david adjaye and celebrated tattoo artist scott campbell, the company has now made its first foray into the wireless earphone sector in typically bold and elegant style.
ahead of their september launch, designboom tested out a pair of master & dynamic’s first true wireless earphones — the MW07s.
master & dynamic has quickly built a reputation for beautiful, functional, and durable hardware
inspired by luxury sunglasses and eyewear, the MW07 true wireless earphones have been engineered using handcrafted, precision-cut acetate, which comes in four initial colorways — grey terrazzo, tortoiseshell, steel blue, and matte black. meanwhile, PVD-coated stainless steel has been used for both the acoustic enclosures and the control buttons on each unit. ‘with the launch of the MW07, we’ve not only improved the user experience, but we’ve used premium materials to take true wireless earphones into uncharted territory,’ explains master & dynamic’s CEO and founder, jonathan levine.
the MW07s come with a range of customizable components
however, the MW07s don’t just look the part, they also offer exceptional acoustics that deliver a rich and expansive sound. beryllium, a lightweight but rigid material traditionally only used in hi-fi products, has been used for the custom 10mm driver units. the earphones can be quickly and easily put in, with optical sensors capable of detecting in-ear placement so that the sound is paused when the earphones are not in use. once reconnected, the sound continues.
the stainless steel charging case helps provide a total of 14 hours of on-the-go listening
a detachable silicone ‘fit wing’, which comes in two sizes, along with five ear tip sizes, ensures that the earphones can be comfortably and securely fitted to any ear. weighing just 9 grams each, the MW07s are extremely mobile, providing up to 14 hours of on-the-go listening thanks to their stainless steel charging case. the fully-charged earphones hold 3.5 hours of battery life, while the case holds three additional charges, delivering 10.5 hours more playtime. furthermore, the case can be charged to 50% in just 15 minutes using the included USB-C cable. meanwhile, a patent-pending antenna provides seamless bluetooth 4.2 connectivity and range.

master & dynamic’s focus on design and attention to detail is a key part of its identity. from the high material quality, to the powerful and rich sound performance, users can anticipate an experience that feels refined, fluid, and intuitive. ‘our goal is to offer the best of both superior sound and sophisticated design to our customers,’ levine continues — proving that high tech can also be high design.
