Swarovski and Marc Newson for AX VISIO at CES 2024

Unveiled at CES 2024, Swarovski Optik collaborates with Marc Newson to design AX VISIO, the dubbed world’s first AI-supported binoculars that using their high-performance analog long-range optics and digital intelligence, they can detect and identify more than 9,000 birds and other wildlife at a touch of a button. The world’s first AI binoculars come equipped with long-range analog optics from Swavroksi’s Swarovision and a real-time identification system that enables the naming of birds and other wildlife species autonomously and using technology.

The lenses of the binoculars can also capture photos and videos so the user can save what they have identified and seen in nature. The data can be immediately managed and shared using a connected smartphone and the dedicated SWAROVSKI OPTIK Outdoor App. Swarovski Optik says that this app also has a Shared Discoveries function which means that other users can guide people to the observed object using arrow markers in the display. Swarovski Optik and Marc Newson invested around five years in the development and creation of AX VISIO.

World’s first AI binoculars with swarovski optics

For the AX VISIO, now showcased at CES 2024, Marc Newson keeps the modern appearance and intuitive handling intact for the world’s first AI binoculars designed for Swarovski Optik. The ergonomic design means it is easy for the user to grip and hold the binoculars, and AX VISION also poses as the second collaboration of Marc Newson with Swarovski Optik following their work on the CL Curio.

Marc Newson remarks that AX VISIO is similar to a modern camera since they are both optical, electronic and digital. The statement can be proven since the AI binoculars are produced with a high degree of vertical integration at Swarovski Optik’s main site in Absam, Austria. To devise the smart and AI-supported binoculars, Marc Newson’s design for AX VISIO is integrated with an operating and object-recognition system. It has a Neural Processing Unit that can ensure fast processing of relevant information for object recognition.

‘The analog components of the device, such as the optics and housing, comply with our sustainable SWAROVSKI OPTIK quality standards. The performance of the digital features is regularly updated and enhanced through regular system and function updates. An open programming interface gives creative external providers the opportunity to expand the AX Visio with new functionalities. Our aim is to promote an innovative system that continuously develops and meets users’ needs for enhanced vision and more information as effectively as possible,’ says Andreas Gerk, the Chief Technology and Operations Officer at SWAROVSKI OPTIK. From February 1st, 2024, the AX Visio will be available for purchase from selected retailers and online.
