machine1867 transforms a KTM 620 enduro into a custom bobber

sydney-based edi buffon — also known as machine1867 — has transformed a KTM enduro bike into a stripped-to-the-essentials bobber. inspired by the style of the 1920s ace motorcycle, edi took a 2000-model KTM 620 LC4 enduro bike and designed a new frame to accommodate its engine and wheels.

‘I thought I could do something with that motor, so I bought it,’ edi buffon told bike exif. ‘I was working on another project at the time so it sat in the corner of my workshop collecting dust till I was ready. I prepped the engine and tried to start it to see if there were any issues I needed to address. to my surprise it started on the third kick. with confidence that the low mileage motor was healthy, I began the tear down.’

the KTM 620 enduro custom bobber features the LC4 single-cylinder motor placed on a rigid steel frame with a 35º rake and a 1,500 mm wheelbase. the front end pays homage to the ace motorcycle by being rigid. ‘it had to be a rigid front end, just like the ace that first inspired me,’ he continued. ‘this was a fairly simple process, and once completed looked the part.’

an aluminum tanks sits under the top tube of the rigid frame, just like on his model machine. the left one holds the fuel while the right one has all the electrical components. the bike features the original brembo brake system but only on the front wheel. the seat, together with the springs, continue to add to the ace reference.

‘the reassembly of this bike was the easiest and most pleasurable so far, perhaps due to the simplistic approach,’ he concluded. ‘now it’s time to get busy with an over the top, challenging and frustrating new build!’
