lunaz unveils electric open-top range rover

Known for converting iconic cars to electric powertrains, UK-based restoration shop Lunaz unveils the Country, a fully electric open-top Range Rover designed as a sailing yacht tender for a customer in Southampton, New York. With its bright Mayan Blue exterior and sleek black trim, the electric convertible pays tribute to its oceanside use while offering an eye-catching appearance. The open car was significantly reinforced using triangular steel sections to support the vehicle for the upgraded drivetrain and remain stable even without a roof.

Alongside the Country, Lunaz has also introduced the Town, a classic Land Rover Range Rover with closed seats that sports a two-tone paint finish in coral and high-gloss black.

The ‘Country’ configuration

The Country looks like a typical two-door Range Rover, but has one bold difference: it is completely open-top. The result is Safari model with no cover for the driver or the passengers. Although the car is primarily intended to serve as a shuttle between the customer’s property and his yacht, great attention has been paid to the interior. Each veneer panel is finished in Mocca Walnut, with a custom chevron pattern. A first for Lunaz, the Mocca Walnut flooring is installed on the aft passenger deck, which seats six, and flows into a custom center console that houses chargers and a cooler. For a contemporary treatment, the wood is applied in machined, linear strips before being finished with a durable, satin, weather-resistant paint.

The SUV has been equipped with an all-electric powertrain that delivers about 360 hp and 450 lb ft, which is about 177% more power than the original V8 engine. In addition, the vehicle has received a full suspension overhaul, while the brakes are equipped with a regenerative function that charges the vehicle’s battery during braking.

‘The dramatic surge in demand for clean-air classic Range Rovers is significant proof of concept for Lunaz Design. The market has confirmed that re-engineering, electrifying, and upcycling the most significant cars in the world will secure their relevance for generations to come.’ shares David Lorenz, CEO of Lunaz (find more here).

‘With our Range Rovers by Lunaz, and through significant vehicles such as the extraordinary Town and Country commissions, we will continue to set a new benchmark of excellence in classic car design, engineering and craftsmanship as well as the discipline and culture of upcycling.’ he adds.

the ‘town’ configuration

Focusing on rear-seat and driver comfort, the ‘Town’ Range Rover model will be 80% chauffeur driven and kept in Monaco. For this configuration, Lunaz has applied a selection of significant customized treatments. In addition to simpler requests for personalized exterior and interior colors, the customers have requested, among other things, the integration of vintage clothing into the vehicle’s fabric palette, and seat covers made from recycled marine plastic.

The interior of the long-wheelbase model features a color palette inspired by the customer’s second home in Scotland. Robust greens, warm oranges and rich minerals are echoed in both leather and hard-wearing box wool on the seats – all electrically operated, heated, and cooled with massage functions.

The customer requested a specific type of wood for the Range Rover, walnut, which transitions from the dashboard to the center console. The console itself features wireless charging for devices, warming and cooling beverage holders, a separate water refrigerator and a watch winder for four timepieces. The exterior is a bold coral hue, designed by the customer herself, and has a contrasting jet-black roof.
