Lilium’s eVTOL and landing jet to fly to the US market
Lilium, the developer of the dubbed first all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet that can accommodate up to seven passengers, has announced the opening of private sales in the US market with EMCJET, an aircraft brokerage and management company. The same partner will be the exclusive Lilium dealer in Texas through 2030. Lilium aims to take home the crown as the first eVTOL to allow for private sales in the U.S. as it teams up with EMCJET. As part of the partnership, EMCJET will open the sales to individuals who want to purchase some of the first Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets in the country.
The Lilium Jet (read more about it here) will be available across the US, with an initial concentration on major Texas cities, including Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. The first batches of Lilium Jets being offered to private customers worldwide are the Lilium Pioneer Edition Jets. The eVTOL company says that the agreement with EMCJET marks Lilium’s fourth dealer globally. To briefly review, the Lilium Jet is an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing jet engineered for regional transfers and commutes with minimal noise, great performance, and zero operating emissions, as the company claims.

first high-voltage electrical harnesses completed
Alongside its partnership with EMCJET to distribute the first eVTOL in the US as private sales, Lilium announced on October 12th, 2023, that the first high-voltage electrical harnesses for the Lilium Jet were completed. This system of wires and cables, which has already been patented in the U.S. and Europe, forms an important part of the eVTOL’s safety and power distribution.
The harness system was developed with Lilium’s design and build partner for electrical wiring integration, GKN Aerospace, and connector supplier, Rosenberger. The system acts like the electrical veins of the aircraft, with its bundle of cables neatly packed together to keep the setup safe and organized. The cables are responsible for carrying electricity from the batteries (which are on the sides of the aircraft) to the engines (which are in the wings).

These harnesses are designed with safety in mind, and they have built-in backups, or redundancy, to make sure everything keeps running smoothly. Lilium says they are also lightweight so as not to add more weight to the landing jet. It can also handle high voltage, over 900 volts, which helps the Lilium Jet fly efficiently and safely.
In June 2023, Lilium shared that it was the only eVTOL manufacturer with EASA and FAA certification basis for a powered lift eVTOL aircraft following the G-1 certificate that the Federal Aviation Administration issues. While the news celebrates the progress of the eVTOL, Lilium is yet to identify when the first batches of its landing jets will arrive and can be purchased.
