legendary 1960s volvo P1800 sportscar reborn by cyan racing

first born in the 1960s, the legendary volvo P1800 has been given a new lease of life. called the volvo P1800 cyan, world touring car champions cyan racing reinterprets the iconic model for the modern day. the result is as close as possible to being a restoration without technically being so.

‘obviously we could have built an electric volvo P1800 filled with all the latest technology, comfort and luxury. but that was not what we wanted,’ said christian dahl, CEO and founder of cyan racing. ‘amid this paradigm shift we decided to slow down time and freeze a part of it in our own time capsule. to take the best from the golden sixties and combine it with our capabilities of today, keeping a pure yet refined driving experience.’

designed in 1960, cyan racing restored a 1964 model specifically. they imagined what the legendary sports car would be like if it were continued today; an authentic sixties design and driving experience was decided as the way to go. this meant no driver aids, like stability control, ABS or brake booster, and a focus on a lightweight, analog ride.

enhancing the team’s expertise in engine, aero and chassis design, the car was altered for a wider track, larger wheels and repositioned greenhouse. the new body was sculpted using reinforced high-strength steel and carbon fiber, resulting in a weight of just 990kg. the design is completed with an energetic blue coating that highlights how there’s a new life in the classically appearing car.

within, the volvo P1800 cyan enhances a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 420hp and 455Nm of torque. a five-speed bespoke holinger gearbox doubles down to ensure a driving experience like the sixties is delivered, whilst offering increased performance and precision. the biggest modification is the fully adjustable front and rear suspension that brings its comfort to the modern.
