Lamborghini INTRODUCES gran turismo lanzador concept car

During the Monterey Car Week 2023, running from August 11th to 20th, 2023, Lamborghini removes the veil of its concept car Lanzador, an all-electric Gran Turismo with a car design of 2+2 seats and a power electric motor on each axle ensuring a peak power of over one megawatt. Fans on Instagram have pleaded with the car brand not to go electric, but Lamborghini seems to gaze straight and move forward, given the introduction of its concept car that will fuel its future hybrid and electric models.

Electric sports car to be built from 2028

The concept car of Gran Turismo Lanzador follows in the footsteps of Lamborghini’s ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ strategy. Its roadmap leads the design team to trail decarbonization and electrification, a mission the car brand first announced in 2021. Following the presentation of the V12 plug-in hybrid Revuelto, Lamborghini’s all-electric concept car Lanzador offers its fans an insight into the series model to be built starting 2028.

Lanzador blends the technical elements of a sports car and the look of a vehicle that is drivable daily. As Lamborghini states, the concept car invokes a pure design combining ultra high-performance elements of the Revuelto super sports car and the animated versatility of an Urus. It would have an all-wheel drive that can handle corners well as it can adjust the power to its rear wheels as needed. It is also powered by a high-performance battery that gives it both power and a long driving range.

The design of the GT concept car Lanzador is inspired by spaceships. Mitja Borkert, Head of Design Lamborghini, describes the start point of the design process from the volumes of a super sports car, but taking it onwards to create a true pilot’s driving position, inspired also by the Huracán Sterrato. The car’s exterior design draws inspiration from iconic Lamborghini models like the Sesto Elemento, Murciélago, and Countach LPI 800-4. It features sleek lines that emphasize aerodynamics, and the car sits low to the ground with a roof height of about 1.5 meters.

Lamborghini lanzador is inspired by spaceships

Inside, the design follows Lamborghini’s ‘feel like a pilot’ philosophy and has a futuristic, spaceship-inspired layout. While it is a 2+2 GT, it offers more versatility by allowing the rear space to carry sports equipment or luggage. There is a hidden trunk in the front and a spacious rear compartment with adjustable seats, and it has slim headlights inspired by the Countach LPI 800-4 and hexagonal-shaped taillights. Inside the car, the driver sits low, almost like in a jet, and it uses design elements like the large Y-shaped center console.

By the end of 2024, Lamborghini wants to electrify every model in its lineup. It is ready to spend more than 1.9 billion euros over a four-year period switching to hybrid technology. The idea behind the fourth model, the Gran Turismo Lanzador, is to create a refined ‘laboratory on wheels’ for environmentally friendly materials in addition to a technical demonstrator. The concept car aims to lead Lamborghini’s segment starting in 2028 all the while inherently upholding the brand’s DNA and carrying Lamborghini’s legacy of more than 60 years into a new era.
