lamborghini concentrates on power-to-weight ratio with 770 hp centenario

for lamborghini celebrated centenary year of founder ferruccio lamborghini’s birth, the italian luxury carmaker presented the ‘centenario’ at the 2016 geneva motor show. using V12 architecture, the naturally aspirated engine produces 770 hp and accelerates zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h.

a monocoque and body are all in carbon fiber to provide a drasticly low weight to power ratio of just 1.97 kilograms per horsepower. the team of designers and engineers keep the car grounded with long low overhangs for both the front and rear, creating a clean mono-body shape. aerodynamic inlets made of several fins characterize both ends of the ‘centenario’.

the body of the car is defined in gloss-finished carbon fiber. the front hood, scissor door panels and roof line are merge together organically. the lower parts reserved for functional purposes are in matt, including the front splitter, side skirts wheel arches and rear diffuser.

with permanent four-wheel drive, the lamborghini also adopts a rear-wheel steering system. at low speeds the rear tires turn in the opposite direction of the steering angle which leads to a virtual reduction of the wheelbase for tight city corner. in three driving modes at fast speeds, the system increases stability and optimizes vehicle response.

inside each of the 40 ‘centenarios’ is finished to a client’s specifications. sport seats in lightweight carbon fiber are included, with stitching accenting the length of the dashboard. in the middle, a 10.1 inch touchscreen connects the driver to both the car and the outside world. lamborghini introduced apple’s ‘carplay’ operating system for allowing safe and effective user experience.
