honda’s 0 series introduces low-leveled electric vehicles with minimal cabin car parts

Honda makes way for new electric vehicles with 0 Series

Unveiled this January during CES 2024, Honda is on track to produce its future low-height electric vehicles under 0 Series. It comprises two concept electric vehicles named Saloon and Space-Hub, but they will soon become real-life car models since Honda is expected to start releasing them in the North American Market in 2026. Understanding the concept behind the Honda 0 Series may help drivers learn the reasons behind the low-height vehicles.

Going back to basics and the beginning became the ideation point for Honda, thus the name 0 for the series. The number alludes to Honda’s mission statements moving forward with its electric vehicles, starting with its ‘man maximum, machine minimum’ concept. It is the company’s basic approach to Honda car design, which maximizes the cabin area for people and minimizes the space required for mechanical components. With Saloon and Space-Hub electric vehicles, the radical design immediately comes up.

Meet saloon and space-hub, honda’s new electric vehicles

Saloon is set to become the flagship model of the Honda 0 Series. The electric vehicle can almost touch the floor with its height, and its shape may be deemed unusual for a city car. The elongated frame bows steeply towards the front, revealing a singular, oblique front bumper that resembles the mouth of a vacuum machine. Looking at the side, the geometric cuts on the doors and windows are slanted, and a prism takes up the primary style of the tires. As soon as the users open the gull-wing doors of Saloon, a wide-spaced interior greets them.

Staying true to its man maximum/machine minimum design ethos, the legroom inside the electric vehicle has a wide expanse so the users can stretch their legs, bucket seats cocoon them as they travel on the road, and for the driver, a series of technology is installed which forms part of the Honda 0 Series. The instrument panel, a window-to-window HD display, features a human-machine interface that enables simple and intuitive operations, and the steering wheel is noticeably embedded into the screen too, giving the impression that the driver pulls it out when driving and pushes it back when in idle or parked.

An even bigger cabin space is what Space-Hub can offer, the van vehicle in the electric family of Honda 0 Series. Instead of the traditional seating arrangement, Honda opts for a face-to-face setting to make way for more space in the middle. Passenger-friendly is what the car company has in mind since the seating extends around the electric vehicle, forming a continuous bench-like seat interrupted by the bucket seats of the main passengers. In this way, everyone is looking at everyone, and given the name Space-Hub, they can enjoy the panoramic views with the all-glass roof that changes its tint to shield them from the heat.

Thin, light, and wise designs for 0 series

Both the vehicles in the 0 Series embody Honda’s new approach to developing its electric vehicles: thin, light, and wise. The floor-level height helps achieve better aerodynamic performance by using an in-house platform that makes these electric vehicles almost touch the floor. Being light comes in as Honda leverages the aerodynamics used in Formula for its 0 Series alongside wise technology which includes advanced AI, sensing, recognition/decision-making and driver monitoring systems.

Aside from the new electric vehicles of Honda for its 0 Series, the car company has also introduced the revamped logo design of the signature H. The current H mark has a history that dates back to 1981, and to signal the company’s entrance to the new generation of cars, Honda changes the insignia and logo into a chunkier letter that slopes inside before it peaks around its pointed edges. Somehow, the curved line of the new H mark resembles the seating arrangement for Space-Hub, and the revamped logo is expected to appear on the electric vehicles in the 0 Series when they get released as real models in 2026.
