american speed experts hennessey from texas have introduced the ‘venom F5’, successor to the ‘venom GT’ – the world’s fastest street legal supercar. in order to surpass the GT’s 270.49-mph speed record, the F5 will use an increase in power and a reduction in drag from its clean-sheet carbon-fiber body. weighing just under 1300 kg (2866 lb.), the F5’s bold, sculpted exterior drops the two-seater coupe drag coefficient from 0.44 to below 0.40, resulting in better aerodynamic performance. still, the F5 generates significant downforce through both the upper body and rear diffuser beneath the rear bumper and a retractable rear wing.

for power, the ‘venom F5’ will receive a longitudinally mounted v8 twin-turbo powertrain, with the potential output eclipsing 1400 horsepower. currently, the venom GT’s acceleration record stands at 14.51 seconds for the 320 km/h (200 mph) sprint, meaning the new speedster has the performance figures to exceed them. hennesssey claims the F5 will introduce many new technologies, specifically to boost performance levels, such as a single clutch paddle-shift transmission to enhance acceleration and reduced shift speeds, and a GPS-based traction control system.
