GoPro GoKart doesn’t want to miss a thing, so it records every race from all angles using the multiple cameras on board and around the vehicle. The conceptual car comes from Sean Gao, who imagines GoPro, a brand synonymous with documenting movement and adventure, installing numerous cameras and artificial intelligence around its very own GoKart vehicle. In a way, it might signal a potential venture for GoPro whose multiple lenses may land their focus on building their camera-planted GoKart.

Four cameras around GoPro gokart

Designer Sean Gao explains how his conceptual GoPro GoKart works. The front-facing camera offers the rider a sight of speed, the two side cameras capture the race and overtakes, and the rear camera records the competition that’s happening behind the rider. When the rider steps inside GoPro GoKart, they plug in their smartphones into the designated slot in front of them, on the dashboard. This enables the vehicle to power up since the GoKart won’t turn off without recognizing its owner.

GoPro GoKart also uses the plugged-in smartphone for data and statistics transfer, so analysts and stewards can keep track of the vehicle’s speed and the rider’s stats. When it comes to activating the GoKart, the rider taps a button on the left side of the steering wheel. They can switch to drive mode by twisting the knob located on the lower left too. Sean Gao says that in specific situations, the driver can also opt for reverse mode by using the same knob and turning it backward.

It’s time to race. GoPro GoKart prepares all of its cameras on board to record the entire race. If the driver only wants to document a specific angle from their game, they can choose the camera by tapping the dedicated button on the right side of the steering wheel. Since accidents may take place in races, GoPro GoKart has its own emergency stop button, located on the lower right of the vehicle, that can immediately halt the racing kart.

Sean gao adds AI video editor

Sean Gao also imagines the use of artificial intelligence in his conceptual GoPro GoKart. ‘One of the technologies behind the scenes is the AI-powered editing tool. It would deliver a personal highlight video from all the footage that the cameras have captured to help the user relive their fastest lap,’ Sean Gao tells designboom. GoPro’ AI software Quik can also help give the driver highlights of their turns and fiery competitive streaks by automatically selecting and trimming clips that highlight them.

GoPro GoKart may be a conceptual vehicle by Sean Gao, but its matte-like surface and sleek design can already be found in modern car design these days. The use of carbon fiber may also be recalled, a potential material that could help add lightness to the weight of GoPro GoKart should it ever become a reality. For Sean Gao, riding a GoKart with GoPro cameras is more than just a race. It’s a cinematic journey through the world of go-kart racing.
