all-new, all-electric AUDI e-tron fitted with virtual exterior mirrors

the AUDI e-tron might appear as a sporty, full-size SUV but the car is also the brand’s first fully electric series production model. from its exterior and interior design to its staggering performance, the e-tron delivers a fun, electrified driving experience. and, live from san francisco, designboom witnessed the highly anticipated world premier.

starting with its electrification, the AUDI e-tron is powered by two substantial electric motors that are CO2 neutral as well as virtually silent. its battery system is positioned low and central in order to deliver a sporty character in motion. this performance is further enhanced by the new generation of quattro drive, offering both excellent traction and dynamics. the model is expected to offer a range of around 250 miles, thanks to a system where, when decelerating, it recovers energy using a combination of the electric motor and integrated electrohydraulic brake control system. with a standard 11kw charger, it would take 8.5 hours to full energize. however, with 150kw public fast-charing points, the vehicle will boost the battery charge by 80% in 30 minutes.

from afar, the SUV displays a sporty exterior design defined by sculpted aerodynamic bodywork. the smooth panels cover surfaces from front to rear, where only a specific number of grooves help optimally direct airflow, such as the lines on its elongated bonnet. its aerodynamic efficiency is improved even more so by its virtual exterior mirrors – a world’s first in production models – that digitally replaces traditional wing mirrors with cameras. at a closer glance, exterior details hint at its high-voltage technology, including the expressive sill area, tailboard and light gray singleframe.

the interior pairs high quality materials and craftsmanship with electrified elements, such as subtle voltage lighting that illuminates the sculpted dashboard. the result is a premium environment that is further enhanced with spaciousness, comfort and quietness. the electric engines ensure the cabin is virtually silent and that the sound system takes center stage – as previewed in our exclusive e-tron test drive. furthermore, without the combustion engines and its powertrain, the interior instantly becomes bigger and offers more space for passengers to enjoy.

the electrified SUV is perfected with extreme connectivity. the media center MMI navigation plus enhances the e-tron route planner, meaning directions are displayed whilst following the required charging points for the journey. once there, automated billing can be activated and the car can even be remotely controlled via the driver’s smartphone.
