ecurie ecosse builds seven jaguar c-type race car continuations

racing back from the 1950s, ecurie ecosse are to create continuation models of the famed jaguar c-type. the scottish motoring brand gained considerable success with the race car in the mid-20th century, racking up 59 podium places in total. they consider the design a technological masterpiece as the first race car honed in the wind tunnel, first to use fuel bag tanks, and the test bed for dunlop’s revolutionary disc brakes. the continuation models pay homage to their past success – both the brand and car.

‘how better to celebrate the historic success of the ecurie ecosse c-types than to manufacture a batch of cars in their honour? the seven priceless chassis raced in period still exist today, coveted by their lucky owners, occasionally seeing the light of day for race of concours events. we are paying homage to these cars by creating a numbered sister car to each one. meticulous in their detail, like their forebears, hand-built in coventry and tuned by ecurie ecosse technicians,’ says ecurie ecosse patron alasdair mccaig.

the ecurie ecosse c-type continuation models retain all the key elements from jaguar’s original design, with only slight and considered improvements where necessary to fit the modern day. the aerodynamic shape, crafted from thin-gauge aluminum alloy, remains and is mounted to a steel spaceframe chassis that is wider and stiffer than before. looking at details, hand-airbrushed ecurie ecosse shields adorn the flanks. inside, hand-crafted aluminum bucket seats are clothed in supple blue leather, and tag heuer master time stopwatches have been fitted on the dashboard.

beneath the hood, the straight-six engine also remains, but the capacity has been increased to 4.2-liters and fuel injection fitted to bring power up to 300 bhp. a five-speed gearbox has been added to maximize acceleration and top speed, racing from 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds up to a max of 156 mph. both the suspension and disc brakes have been upgraded as well.
