duffy london develops luxury solar powered yacht for fuel-free cruising at sea

duffy london has developed a luxury, solar-powered motor yacht that provides a clean and fuel-free experience at sea. the ‘solaris global cruiser’ is designed to use state of the art manufacturing techniques to give it an extremely strong and light hull, shell, and interior. combined with the latest in battery and solar technology, these attributes form a super-yacht that may never need to be refueled.

the ‘solaris global cruiser’ can travel silently at great speeds — just as a sailing yacht — but provides a total flexibility of travel, free from disagreeable wind and weather conditions. for duffy london, it was important that the yacht’s environmentally friendly facets were not compromised by luxury and comfort. ten guests and seven crew members can be accommodated in five cabins, with two outdoor decks — on both upper and lower levels — providing spaces for relaxation and panoramic views of the sea. 

motor yachts spend a great deal of time at rest in ports and harbors — a circumstance the ‘solaris global cruiser’ takes advantage of. the duffy london-designed boat uses these rest periods to maintain and keep the vessel fully fueled and to top up while traveling.

‘as a medium, a large yacht, boat or ship is a perfect proving ground for these technologies, as it provides an environment that is almost entirely enclosed,‘ the duffy london team explains. ‘it must be able to produce its own fresh water, deal with its own waste and provide its own power. solar panel and battery technologies are currently progressing in huge leaps where they now have their own form of moore’s law (used for computer processing power) and we can apply a version of this law to make this concept a feasible one.’
