italian designer pierpaolo lazzarini wants to bring back the magic of physically sharing music. with our modern culture of online playlists and streaming services, the days of giving a friend or loved one a vinyl record, CD or cassette tape have almost disappeared. considering this, lazzarini aims to recreate the physical touch of music with ‘songball’ – a small, customizable object that contains just one special song.

the songball – which lazzarini describes as a ‘musical jewel’ – allows the user to specify the song they want to gift. measuring 3cm in diameter, the ball can be made from a selection of plastic, wood or precious metal. each songball will be delivered engraved around its circular ring, with the year, artist’s or band’s name and the title of the chosen song.
have you ever thought of giving a song as a gift?
as each song represents a unique story, the possibilities in terms of customization are countless, even a custom message or signature can be added. to complete the gift, a book of lyrics of the chosen song is also included in the packaging. in addition to providing a personalized present, the designer is also developing a series of new devices and games to explore the many potential functions of songball. discover more and support the songball on kickstarter here.
