The architectural influences of the Modernist movement and Le Corbusier emerge in the Cube Houseboat, an aluminum catamaran with a red glass house built on top of it. The catamaran design was unveiled during the Beyond Horizons: A Voyage through Yacht Design, an event hosted by Leoni Design Workshop which runs from November 13th to 18th, 2023. Jacopo Leoni, the frontman of the Leoni Design Workshop, was the exterior designer of the Cube Houseboat, which can also be customed depending on the owner’s needs.

The notable features of the Cube Houseboat include a displacement catamaran hull with asymmetrical and slightly curved hulls. These are forged from robust alloy aluminum and serve as the foundation for the cubic house. Glancing at the residential architecture, the alloy aluminum inserted into the finished hull makes up the base of the house, reinforced by red-hued glass that surrounds it. The designs combine what Jacopo Leoni calls ‘the pioneering spirit of the Modernist movement and the brilliance of Le Corbusier.’

Cube Houseboat is an aluminum catamaran with glass house

Leoni Design Workshop’s Cube Houseboat plants an upper deck that can be accessed using the external stairs, and here, a custom pool welcomes the passengers alongside a commercial-sized jacuzzi inside the main bedroom. Below the main deck, the passengers find the semi-hull compartment where the machinery spaces, tanks, and chain lockers are thoroughly arranged. Going to the rear part of the catamaran, water vehicles that passengers can use are located or can be stashed for future water excursions and use.

As the passengers walk to the front section of the Cube Houseboat, where the bow is located, they can find the docking functionality of the catamaran with a glass house. Here, they can also go sightseeing as they soak in the views of the landscapes. The Cube Houseboat is expected to move forward using two propellers, each driven by a diesel engine. As of publishing the story, Leoni Design Workshop says the Cube Houseboat is the third vessel concept in the Beyond Horizons: A Voyage through Yacht Design event and that on November 18th, 2023, physical models of the participating boats and yachts will debut in a 1/100 scale via a live stream on their Linkedin page.
