concept dual-use motorcycle on train tracks and land

Artist Heqi Wang and the motorcycle design team comprising Jianning Su, Xinyi Ma, and Kai Qiu thought of the maintenance workers who risk their safety making sure the trains and subways run smoothly, avoiding jams and delays. Kneeling on the railway to investigate the tracks and see what may go wrong, or has gotten wrong, means switching from one place to another on foot. The humid or frosty air that spills through the confined, hollowed space adds up to the weight of the activity.

The team noted these possibilities and has shared that with the rapid development of global railways, the responsibility of railway maintenance and maintenance workers grows exponentially, but most railway maintenance workers can only walk to repair, which reduces efficiency and safety. To shield them from harm and boost their work efficiency, the design team has conceptualized Railway Motorcycle, a dual-use vehicle, with the potential to be an electric motorcycle, that can be used by maintenance workers to repair or maintain railways and tracks and be purchased by ordinary people to use on land.

Features of the concept dual-use motorcycle

The Railway Motorcycle has wings on both sides that latch on the rails when lowered. The design team believes their concept can run on the track at high speed and stably, carrying the railway maintenance workers to the maintenance area. By lifting the side wings, the motorcycle can also run on the road and other lands, serving its dual purpose at ease. As of its conception, the team imagines the motorcycle’s body as made of aluminum-magnesium alloy with sets of vacuum-puncture-proof tires. It also has an LED display screen attached to the connecting rod journal shaft to display the status of the motorcycle, the steering device is the tilt steering control lever, and the power source comes from the internal battery. The rear wheel drives, and the front wheel uses a special fixed reverse gear device. Putting down both wings on the track makes the motorcycle stable and ready to go for track upkeep.

Futuristic concept motorcycle

The orange and gray colors of the Railway Motorcycle, a winner in the London International Creative Competition for Non-Professional / USE Product, help the vehicle stand out in the dim, a usual occasion in underground railways. When used on land, a futuristic vibe permeates its design as the rider hops on the vehicle, bows their body, angles their feet to the pedals, and grips the handlebars before they speed through the traffic as if starring in an action or sci-fi movie. The hollowed tires are free from wheel rims and attached tubes from the engine and mirror the look of clockwork engines. The high-speed motorcycle may just be a concept at the moment, but with the advancement in production, technology, and research, manufacturing this kind and concept may just as well be possible.
