the casio ‘GZE-1’ is a durable action camera for extreme sports enthusiasts that borrows rugged ‘G-shock’ technology from the brand’s watch collection. furthermore the japanese manufacturer adopts the reliable design principle of its timepieces for the new action camera, which is practically impenetrable against all of mother nature’s elements.

at first glance, casio’s ‘GZE-1’ could be easily mistaken for a ‘G-shock‘ watch that is missing a wristband, but embedded where the time dial normally sits is a camera lens. it features a 13 mm F/2.8 equivalent lens and a 21 mp 1/2.3-type backlit CMOS sensor, that is capable of taking 6.9 megapixel photos, and full HD (1,920 x 1,080) videos. it can also capture 240 FPS slow-motion videos, that keeps extreme videos steady with its integrated three-axis electronic image stabilization. as the tiny action camera doesn’t have a built-in display for viewing photographs and videos, users can pair the device with a smartphone, the optional ‘GEC-10’ remote control, or casio’s ‘pro trek WSD-F20’ android smartwatch.

thanks to an extra-thick resin body coating and urethane bumper, the action camera is able to withstand drops from up to four meters; function normally when the temperature drops to arctic conditions (-10°c); and survive under water at depths of up to 50 meters. the ‘GZE-1’s’ body also has an ‘IP6X’ dust-resistance rating, which means it can be brought along to the beach without the worry of failure from sand destroying its internal components. casio’s new camera is expected to go on sale in japan by the end of this month.
