featuring a 2.7″ (6.7cm) LCD screen, the 12.1-megapixel camera is canon’s smallest to permit full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 pixels and 24fps. the device is also the most recent to feature canon’s HS system, which incorporates a back-lit CMOS sensor and DIGIC processing technology to lower noise levels and produce higher quality photos. with a 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens, the ‘ixus 220 hs’ offers 5x optical and 4x digital zoom, with built-in ‘smart auto’ and ‘smart flash exposure’ modes.

the camera’s high-speed burst mode shoots eight images per second in 3-megapixels, while continuous shooting offers 3.4 shots per second in full resolution. a movie record button permits the ‘ixus 220 hs’ to switch immediately from still to video shooting. for video recording, ‘super slow motion movie’ mode records videos at 24fps for playback at 1/8 the speed of realtime, while ‘movie digest’ mode records the first four seconds of action taking place before the capture of a still image, ultimately stitching the day’s recordings together to create a short video record.
the camera has been released in silver, red, and black
additional special creative shooting modes include ‘fish-eye’, ‘poster effect’, ‘toy camera effect’ that models the look of pinhole camera photos, and the tiltshift-like ‘miniature effect’, usable on both images and video.
the camera features a 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens with 5x optical and 4x digital zoom
priced at 239 euro or 250 USD, the camera has just been made available in europe and the states in red, black, and silver.
