CAKE unveils ösa, an off-grid, anti-poaching, solar-powered electric motorbike

ÖSA IS THE LATEST ADDITION TO CAKE’S ANTI-POACHING INITIATIVE

swedish bike manufacturer CAKE has introduced a new off-grid electric motorbike to strengthen its anti-poaching initiative. dubbed ösa AP, the new bike joins the kalk AP (read more on designboom here), and continues with its aim of protecting endangered species from illegal hunting and capturing.

created in close collaboration with southern african wildlife college, CAKE’s anti-poaching initiative brings purpose-built electric off-road silent motorcycles that help rangers increase efficiency in catching poachers by quietly sneaking upon them. the electric bikes also pose a solution to traditional combustion engine motorcycles, which are not only loud, but unsustainable for the region. delivering fuel is made either by diesel trucks and sometimes by helicopters, further driving the costs and pollution in those sensitive areas.

with CAKE’s electric bikes for anti-poaching, rangers are equipped with mobile power stations and solar panels to charge the bikes with renewable power from the sun, allowing them to operate off the power grid and independent of traditional power sources.

CAKE’s latest bike, the ösa AP, features a workbench and tow truck on two wheels built to hail heavy and bulky loads. its design and specifications has an increased efficiency with lower running costs, and a huge towing performance and cargo possibilities that help rangers bring all the needed equipment.

the design of the ösa AP references the workbench. it is built on a bar that stretches from the front to the rear underneath the seat. this facilities a modular, highly flexible, clamp-on configuration system that serves as the backbone of the bike. rangers can attach anything, from baskets, bags, tools, and more to create over a thousand different possible configurations. the bike also runs on a powerful battery with multiple outlets, meaning the ösa doubles as a power station on two wheels, enabling the rider to be completely independent, off-the-grid.
