BMW Vision Neue Klasse preview at IAA 2023

BMW‘s joyous electrified future arrives on show at IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is an electric car shaped by a clean-white exterior, reinterpreted icons of BMW design, and topped with a transparent glass roof for unobstructed views of the outside. Inside, a yolk-yellow interior exudes a bright burst of color that reflects its electric powertrain, use of sustainable materials, and essential yet technological controls. The concept envisions the next generation of vehicles following the Vision DEE.

Through its selective use of colors, the white exterior of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is sculpted by expansive surfaces and distinctive lines as its steeply forward-slanting shark nose front-end slopes up to a retracted greenhouse. Here, a panoramic glass roof is coupled with large windows on either side. Its neo-futuristic form is accentuated by the renowned by revamped kidney grille and Hofmeister kink of the side window graphic.

The electric BMW Vision Neue Klasse glows as it senses the driver and passengers approaching. Entering the car, users are greeted with the joyous bright yellow tones of the seat to emit warmth from the get-go. It complements the clean-white exterior and contrasts the black side skirts and bumpers, all the while forming a synchronous visual identity.

The analog operating controls have been pared back to a minimum. BMW adds multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and applies voice control commands using the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to help the driver with their needs without pressing anything. For the first time – as previewed by Vision DEE – BMW will introduce its Panoramic Vision to the electric Vision Neue Klasse, where information is projected at the driver’s line of sight and across the entire width of the windscreen. The driver then can move content with a simple gesture.

30% boost in charging speed and range

Circularity is at the heart of producing the electric BMW Vision Neue Klasse. It will be manufactured at the new plant in Debrecen, Hungary entirely without fossil fuels. BMW states that the electric car employs the use of raw and secondary materials produced with reduced carbon emission, including the newly developed round battery cells with more than 20 percent higher energy density. On top of this, the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology will boost the charging speed and range of the electric Vision Neue Klasse models by up to 30 percent.

With the electric BMW Visions Neue Klasses, the BMW Group aims to showcase what the next generation of vehicles under its belt will look like. ‘The BMW Vision Neue Klasse combines our ability to innovate the core areas of electrification, digitalization, and circularity,’ says Oliver Zipse, the Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. He adds that ‘in this way, we are always able to stay two steps ahead of the future: the Neue Klasse is already bringing the mobility of the next decade of the roads in 2025 and leading BMW into a new era.’
