Formula 1-boosted aston martin valhalla supercar

The Aston Martin Valhalla supercar now incorporates Formula 1 technical developments and technologies after a crossover between them resulted in an upgraded Valhalla focusing on materials, speed, and performance. These race-proven methodologies, expertise, and technologies used by the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 team are being adopted by Aston Martin to enhance its future car designs and models, starting with the Valhalla supercar.

To begin, the structure of the upgraded Valhalla will prioritize maximizing its stiffness, reducing its weight, and updating its control with millimetric precision. A blend of carbon fiber materials forms the core of the supercar’s design, where the upper and lower sections of the structure are molded from carbon fiber using a combination of the Resin-Transfer-Moulding process and Formula 1-derived autoclave technology. This results in a robust car structure that provides protection in case of crashes while making the car easy to maneuver.

Electric motors in wheels for faster acceleration

The Valhalla supercar marks Aston Martin’s transition from traditional gas engines to hybrid and even fully electric vehicles. The Formula 1-upgraded Valhalla is a hybrid and comes with a V8 engine, which is by far Aston Martin’s best in its recent history. Beyond this, three electric motors are integrated into the Valhalla supercar, transforming it into an ultra-fast hybrid car with more than 1,000 horsepower.

These electric motors are located in the front wheels, and the driver can control how much power each wheel receives. The system enables the Valhalla to make sharper turns, maintain grip on angled paths, and accelerate faster when coming out of corners. Another electric motor is installed in the supercar’s rear wheel, which also supports the vehicle’s gasoline engine since the hybrid Valhalla uses both electricity and gas for efficiency.

Multi-element wings to improve downforce

An essential element to consider in supercars is their downforce, or the force that presses the car onto the road, helping it maintain traction. With the Formula 1-enhanced Aston Martin Valhalla, the supercar adjusts its front and rear to create more or less downforce, depending on how the driver is cruising and their speed.  The vehicle features multi-element wings at the front and rear that aid the supercar’s airflow.

The front wing can be flattened out to reduce drag, yet it can still be tilted up to generate significant downforce, which is useful for keeping the supercar stable on the road during sharp turns. At the top of the supercar, the Valhalla features a snorkel that draws in air to cool engine components, improving its overall performance.

Aston Martin used advanced computer simulations and wind tunnel testing, similar to what they do in Formula 1 racing, to design Valhalla’s aerodynamics. They studied how the car’s shape and different settings affect factors like handling, top speed, and road grip to shape Valhalla into a high-performance supercar. The first running prototype will hit the road later in 2023, with Valhalla set to enter production in 2024, resulting in limited 999 models.
