arturo tedeschi collaborates with stud-io and wies offsite
As artificial intelligence continues to permeate industries like architecture, engineering, and construction, designers are now generating astonishing concepts of intricate structures and buildings. Demonstrating how these AI designs can transition from the realm of generating visual representations of conceptual designs to construction implementation, Arturo Tedeschi collaborates with STUD-IO and Wies Offsite. From a concept design in Midjourney, to a 3D mesh model, to a complex steel frame structure, their project is AI-designed and built.

from midjourney to construction site
The process began as computational designer Arturo Tedeschi conducted a series of design explorations using AI tools Midjourney and Stable Diffusion. Images were then transformed into a 3D mesh model by using an algorithmic-based edge detector completed by a triangulation algorithm and manual refinement. The complex model was then built with the help of STUD-IO’s software StudFinder which streamlined the process of modeling and detailing, ensuring precision in the creation of the mock-up. Understanding fabrication and assembly constraints, the intelligent fabrication tool is able to automatically generate manufacturable solutions for any given design.
The software generated machine files for a FrameCAD steel stud roll forming machine located at Wies Offsite, an offsite construction company based in St. Louis, Missouri. Wies Offsite fabricated and assembled the complex frames for this mock-up in a single day. ‘This efficiency is notably remarkable, especially considering the precision and customization required to ensure that all components seamlessly fit together into the precise 3D shape of the design,’ notes Tedeschi.
