arc vector claims to be world's most advanced electric motorcycle

the electric motorcycle startup founded by mark truman, former leader of jaguar white space, has finally revealed its new arc vector model. launched at the EICMA motorcycle show in milan, the bike is being billed as ‘the most premium and individual of EVs,’ with a monster 225-mile range, 30- minute charging and an extortionate price tag to match.

the arc vector reaches 0-60 mph in under 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 120 mph. for £90,000, or just under US$118,000, you get a hand-built, carbon-composite body featuring high-end componentry at a decently low weight of 220kg (485 lb). that includes carbon fibre swingarms, custom ohlins dampers, a brembo brake system – and the unique arc battery monocoque. arc suggests the bike’s 16.8 kWh samsung-made allow around 200 miles of urban riding or 120 miles of highway riding. 

the bike comes with a matching haptic jacket and HUD helmet. the wi-fi-enabled helmet doubles as the bike’s keyless ignition fob. it also features a rear vision system achieved through a heads-up display that projects your speedo data, as well as sat-nav prompts and ‘ancillary graphics’ onto a small transparent glass slide near your left eye.

the bespoke jacket, origin, is laced with ‘audio-type haptic amplifiers’ that arc compares to the vibration motors in a phone. it then uses this information to give haptic feedback to the rider, based on three different modes. in urban mode, the jacket ‘taps’ riders on the shoulder to warn them if another vehicle is in their blind spot. in sports mode haptics give feedback on the bike’s dynamic position, calculating force delivered based on G-force levels. finally, in euphoric mode the haptics use bass amplified by the jacket, wirelessly streaming content from the helmet and the bike.
