Sightful introduces its AR laptop with glasses, Spacetop G1

Spatial computing company Sightful has unveiled Spacetop G1, an augmented reality laptop that projects multiple floating screens in front of the users’ eyes using the included glasses. The AR device, which the company dubs as the ‘world’s first,’ spans up to 100 inches of space and width, allowing users to set up their portable workstation anywhere without hogging space. There’s no LCD screen involved; just 100 inches of virtual workstation combined with 48 TOPS of AI compute that can help the wearable device mimic a laptop’s functioning within its compact set. Sightful says that it is expected to begin shipping Spacetop G1 later in 2024.

Portable workstation anywhere for up to 100-inch virtual space

The slim profile and lightweight hardware of Sightful’s Spacetop G1 can make the AR laptop with glasses fit into a standard laptop sleeve. Even the AR glasses are almost weightless and designed to have automatic dimming features. When the users sit in a bright or sunlit space, the wearable technology increases the focus on its own and sharpens the texts in the floating screens, which can take up to 100 inches of the virtual space.

The portable workstation has a battery life of eight hours, a faster Qualcomm chipset, and a 90Hz optics refresh rate. The AR laptop works with AI functionalities and tools that help make its purpose work. For Spacetop G1, the spatial computing company collaborates with partners like Qualcomm, Wistron, and XREAL, who debuted their own titanium AR glasses that can turn physical objects into digital items.

OLED display panels for the AR glasses

Sightful develops their in-house Space OS for Spacetop G1. All the apps used in a typical computer work with the AR laptop and glasses, and the dedicated OS may ensure that the virtual and portable workstation functions in any space. For specs fans, the AR glasses are equipped with OLED display panels, having 1920 x 1080 pixels per eye and a 50-degree diagonal field of view.

There are 6W open-ear stereo speakers on each side, as well as a microphone for calls and meetings. The AR laptop has 16 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, as well as 5G connectivity and a nano-SIM card slot (it’s also eSIM ready). The keyboard-slash-‘laptop’ weighs around 1.4 kilos in total, while the AR glasses weigh 85 grams. Sightful says that Spacetop G1 can be reserved for 100 USD on its website and that they will ship the first batch in October 2024 for 1,900 USD per unit.
