rescue build: dreamy 1983 honda CX500 motorcycle by purpose built moto

with this 1983 honda CX500, purpose built moto proves dreams can come true. the australia-based custom workshop was brought in a half-completed motorcycle by a very disheartened owner, not best pleased with the work of an unnamed builder to say the least. despite its many issues, the ‘rescue build’ was welcomed in, loved, and now has the fairy tale ending it deserves.

there was no quick fix with the 1983 honda CX500 for purpose built moto. the previous modifications were either incomplete or incorrectly fitted, and most did not function well together as a whole package. to name just a few, the list of fixes needed included the incorrect rear suspension, rewiring for lighting and starter circuits, replacement tail section, repair of the water cooling system, and much, much more.

working through this long list, the custom workshop began by sorting the shifter linkage and then re-shaping the tail to not only fit purpose built moto’s distinctive style but also offer better ride comfort. their signature orbit LED brake light – a single bright red glow – is placed central at the very end of the design. supported by the custom subframe, the tail section then houses the battery, starter coil and fuses, with the electronics fitted under the seat. wheels and suspension – previously called a wet mess by the workshop – had its lacing pattern sorted and rebuilt with new stainless spokes and refreshed rims.

basking in a deep satin bronze, the custom motorcycle is finished with a simple paint scheme that its shape do all the talking. black body lines then further accentuate its form and finish. the result of the rescue proves that dreams really can come true.
