1977 yamaha XS360 motorcycle restored as all-black panache customs smaug

as a workshop known for creating elegant yet highly capable machines, the panache customs smaug is another bespoke motorcycle that exemplifies their vision. it took 550 hours of work to transform a 1977 yamaha XS360 into the final model, which sources its styling from the world of watchmaking, specifically that of the rolex daytona 16523 zenith phase two.

with an original weight of 176 kg, the panache customs smaug lost 26 kg in its re-design. this weight reduction was immediate as the yamaha was stripped back and its frame, swingarm, scabbards, rims stand and electronics box were sanded down. a cluster of components were then added to max the bike’s performance on the road: double front brake rotors, YSS progressive fork springs, twin-disc brake setup, and motogadget m-unit and elektronik sachse MHP regulator for the lithium battery.

the engine has been fully restored and connected to an aluminum custom rear master cylinder tank and exhaust with ceramic-coated headers and spark mufflers. a long, custom saddle seat and TRW-lucas handlebar with biltwell grips and throttle, and polished aluminum mirrors complete the re-design. above all its machinery, the bespoke body has an armor powder-coated in a deep black finish with a golden orange ring and white circle. continuing its reference to the workshop’s dragon series, the smaug motorcycle distinguishes a fierce, intelligent and visually stunning character.
