coronavirus (COVID-19) is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). this new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in wuhan, china, in december 2019, and has since spread globally, resulting in the 2019–20 coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. in response, projects proposed by the design community include a variety of creative emergency responses, medical masks, face shields and social distancing devices.
