a theatre for the aegean archipelago by stenou aliki and triantafyllidis theoklitos floating theatre interior perspective

taking the structure of a hull as starting point, athens-based students stenou aliki and triantafyllidis theoklitos have translated an old ship into an architectural space as a flexible theatrical tool. the central design procedure removes the decks and walls from the facade  which was previously fragmented, creating a huge void in the ‘body’ of the vessel, where the theatre is received. the outer plates of the ship is supported by a dense system of metal frames, keeping the rhythm of the ship’s hold perimeter, extending throughout

the fabric of the development.

light is focused by further perforating the shell where it allows for an ambient glow to enter dynamically. placed under the starry sky, the public is followed by the escort of the summer chill, where the saltiness, motion of the sea and the metal sounds create memories which are silently revealed by the traces on the walls and the exposed smokestacks.
