sides core: vinyl mix hair salon renovation images courtesy of sides core photography : takumi ota
japanese design collective sides core has developed a renovation plan to reconfigure an existing hair studio. the ‘vinyl’s mix hair salon’ transforms the existing layout into a workshop that exercises user and spatial modification. based off the idea of a bookstore, the space serves as an avenue for promoting discussion, influenced by traditional barbershops. the incorporation of the ability to purchase reading material engages the public in social interaction within the building. the interior is strategically configured with knockdown furniture comprised of particleboard along a grid that encourages users to freely update the arrangement of tables, bookshelves and seating.
