paula o’connor: dining together matterszip it tablecloth

developed as a result of intensive research into eating and dining, the furniture design collection by paula o’connor presents a table, chair and table cloth. using a combination of powder coated steel and 100% irish linens, the series contemplates privacy and the how the typologies involved in the construction influence eating patterns. as checking for updates, sending messages and answering calls can be an annoying distraction during a meal, ‘zip it’ highlights and addresses the issue of interruption, while celebrating the ritual of dining with others.

‘privacy chair’ blocks out the distractions that can interrupt a meal. the design and overhead enclosure limits the user’s view, encouraging conversation and interaction between individuals through an overhead enclosure.

‘banquet’  is focused on creating an experience and encouraging communal events around a table. it aims to evoke feelings of grandeur, intimacy and seclusion through a simple, pared down aesthetic. the element of a detachable curtain offers a playful atmosphere, reminding the user of childhood experiences in tent and fort like structures.
