‘laundry room 2.0’ by link arkitektur

the old swedish tradition of having shared laundry rooms in social housing is slowly disappearing. ‘laundry room 2.0’ by swedish architects christian wilke and ida mared, aims to reinvent the shared laundry room by making it a communal meeting space in apartments. by adapting the entire ecological cleaning system in every sense,  all machines and functions are locked behind doors, as they become accessible through a tag and a reservation. booking is done on a touchscreen, computer or by your smartphone, where detergent dosage is automatic and included, and all drain water is locally cleaned in a plant bed just outside. color is used to code the different functions, basic materials and surfaces that are easy to clean. the intention is to create a new sort of space, and to use the aesthetic values as way to communicate a new paradigm.
